We understand the challenges that can arise during breastfeeding and offer specialised physiotherapy support to help women manage common lactation-related conditions. Our goal is to support your breastfeeding journey with effective, evidence-based treatment and compassionate care.

Conditions We Treat
We provide physiotherapy treatment for a range of breastfeeding-related concerns, including:

  • Mastitis
  • Blocked ducts
  • Breast engorgement
  • Nipple trauma, including cracked or damaged nipples
  • Milk blebs (white spots)

Our Physiotherapists are highly skilled, using manual techniques to relieve pain.

Mastitis is an inflammatory condition of the breast, often caused by blocked milk ducts and/or infection. Symptoms may include:

  • Breast pain or tenderness
  • Redness or warmth in the affected area
  • Swelling or hardness
  • Fever, chills, and flu-like symptoms

If you’re experiencing any of these symptoms, early intervention can make a significant difference in recovery and comfort.

Our physiotherapists use a combination of hands-on techniques and education to support recovery, relieve discomfort, and promote healthy breastfeeding.

Our Treatment Approach
Treatment may include:

  • Therapeutic Ultrasound to reduce inflammation/pain and aid in the resolution of blocked ducts
  • Lymphatic Drainage Techniques to gently assist fluid movement and decrease swelling
  • Advice on Compression and Support Garments that are appropriate and non-restrictive
  • Self-Management Strategies to use at home between sessions
  • Preventative Education to reduce recurrence and promote long-term breast health
  • Referral to Trusted Lactation Consultants for additional specialised support

Collaborative Care
To ensure the best outcomes, our physiotherapists work collaboratively with your broader care team – including GPs, midwives, and lactation consultants; to provide integrated, personalised care that supports both you and your baby.
